Roman Villarreal is a self-taught artist who captures the spirit of his South Chicago community in his art, reflecting the people, places and life experiences of his neighborhood. Join Villarreal for an intimate look at this life and practice with this bus tour. Visitors first gather at Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art before setting off by bus to South Chicago for a behind-the-scenes tour of one of Villarreal’s studios. There, attendees experience his creative space and get a peek into his art-making process, seeing finished works alongside those in the making. Following the tour of Villarreal’s studio, attendees return to Intuit for an artist talk and guided tour of the exhibition Roman Villarreal: South Chicago Legacies. The artist’s first major retrospective, the exhibition features works from the 1970s to the present day.
