This inaugural symposium facilitates conversations in Native and Indigenous Futurisms. The dynamic term Indigenous Futurisms refers to a movement that, along with the arts, can be seen as a means to expand possibilities and imagine realities for Native people without colonial limitations.

Organized by the Center for Native Futures, a newly formed nonprofit for Natives in the arts founded by a collective of Native artists and writers based in Chicago, the event features a series of selected panels comprised of Native artists, poets, and thinkers to imagine themselves richly from atop a metaphoric effigy mound.
